About the DCCC: The DCCC is the official national Democratic campaign committee charged with electing Democrats to the U. S. House of Representatives. The DCCC recruits Democratic candidates and supports Democratic campaigns – both challengers and Democratic incumbent Members – with a variety of services including field operations, fundraising support, communications assistance, research support and management consulting. In addition, the DCCC’s Independent Expenditure supports these campaigns with television, radio and other voter contact efforts. Position Summary: The DCCC is seeking an experienced communications professional to be the Director of Surrogates and Media Affairs for the 2018 cycle. This job will be based in Washington, DC.
The Director of Surrogates and Media Affairs will be responsible for booking DCCC leadership, senior staff, and surrogates on national, regional, and local media. An important job responsibility will be building and maintaining relationships with media bookers and producers at outlets across the country. The Director of Surrogates and Media Affairs will also manage preparing and distributing communications materials to our allies, and will work closely with senior and regional communications staff to strategically deploy surrogates for media in targeted districts and national outlets. Daily responsibilities will include drafting and updating talking points, pitching surrogates to TV and radio outlets, and working with the DCCC’s regional teams to identify needs from surrogates for targeted incumbent and challenger races.
A successful candidate will be a highly organized self-starter with the ability to follow and anticipate the rhythm of the modem news cycle. They should enjoy writing, and also thrive in high pressure situations. Tight deadlines and complex logistics are part of the day-to-day responsibilities of the position.
Requirements: excellent communications skills, campaign and media relations experience
